This has been a challenging year for Industries, the United States, and the World with COVID-19. Not only did employees have to transitions from working in an office environment to home but spouses and children joined them in their new office called the home office. Along with assisting children with homework, hearing dogs bark in the background, multiple phones going off, and having to deal with the Pandemic and worries that accompany that as well, I must say everyone has done a great job.

However, one important fact is very true and has been in all the years we have worked in the export field and that is how important Corporate America is in assisting the United States Government in fighting the war against terrorism. Countries that should not have our products to enhance their military or circumvented the system, just don’t get them with your assistance. This has been especially true this year. I find that Companies want to do the right thing.

There have been many changes this year as far as the EAR and ITAR. Taking the CUSECO Class would be a good refresher course for anyone. However, going back to basics is where we should always start, and one of the first steps is educating your sales staff, distributors, and agents to Know Their Customers. BIS has a guideline in the EAR: “KNOW YOUR CUSTOMER” Guidance and Red Flags Supplement No. 3 to Part 732. Please take a moment to review and then send an email to your sales staff, distributors, and agents on this very important topic. Show them how to screen that potential customer.
